Inspired by efforts from around the country to rescue one cat who was the topic of an editorial in a Texas newspaper in September 2002 and branded as a “terror”, this site is designed to share rescue stories and perhaps inspire others to rescue as well. Please submit your own rescue story to admin@savesamoa.org.

Well, the cat really didn't look like it was in good shape. So we tossed cheese closer and closer, until we were able to reach out and touch it. The poor thing was so scraggly, even Gary finally felt we needed to clean it up. He started grooming Boog, which it turned out is female. Though skinny, a beautiful cat emerged from under all that matted dirty hair!

We DEFINITELY heard a kitten crying. Hubby and I looked at each other - what should we do? I'm terribly allergic to cats. He was still very new to not hating cats. Should we bring the little guy inside? What if we just couldn't make it work out? Well, we told ourselves, we can bring him in. If it doesn't work out, we can work to get him adopted by someone else. That's what rescue shelters do, after all, right?

From the beginning (4-6 weeks old), he was a very unhappy little kitten. His siblings loved to play and loved mealtime (3 times a day) and after a short time were easy to handle - but not Tuxedo. No, he did not like me or Laurie! Even just putting down a bowl of food for him, that teeny little ball of fur would arch his back, put his ears back and hiss like a huge cobra snake!

He tapped on the wall beside our bed. …scratch, scratch. How did a kitten get trapped in between the walls of an apartment building? We did the only thing we could think of, we cut a hole in the wall. Sure, we would probably lose the deposit on the place, but money was certainly nothing compared with a life. We still weren't sure about keeping the kitten, and talked about seeing if there was a no-kill shelter that could take it.

My first sight of Autumn was a puffed up feral hiding in the back of a cage in the shelter with a big red caution sign on her, but with a lot of love, patience and slow interaction, Autumn has become a little princess, who headbutts your face for kisses on her head and as long as she doesnt feel too confined, likes to be cuddled and will sit beside us and sleep on the bed with us!

Scully showed me that you can kill a cat by kindness. When I took him home, the vet said unless something drastic was done with his weight, he may not live more than 6 months. We had 6 years with this sweet boys and I cherish every moment of it.

When we got back, there was this skinny, ragged black and white cat sitting in our back hallway. It had obviously been on the streets for a while, and was really thin with an abscessed ear and a cracked tooth. The coffee shop girl was petting it, and it was rubbing up against her and purring up a storm.

I was doing a rescue from a high kill shelter when I seen her, she had just come in and was ready to give birth, big and uncomfortable, she was nesting in her metal cage lined with newspaper and a litterpan taking up half the cage. Harley and his mom, Cinders were unlucky enough to be born on the other side of the border, under the deck of my boss at the time. Being a huge cat lover, and with winter coming, he brought them to animal control, not realising the situation there. When he called to check on them, they told them the fate of the mom and kitten, who was approx 12 weeks at the time - they were not instantly adoptable so had no hope and were scheduled for the next vet visit.

This man rowed out to the middle of the lake and taking this small kitten, he held her by the back of her legs and dunked her up and down in the water repeatedly.
